We are very excited to introduce our collaboration with beloved British spectacle maker, Cubitts.

I first got to know Cubitts by way of an introduction to the founder, Tom Broughton. After many spirited conversations (Tom calls them 'chinwags') fueled by cold lagers at various SoHo institutions, we bonded over our shared values, independent approach, and deep focus on craft. And maybe it was the beers talking, but a cross-Atlantic collaboration just felt right as the Cubitts team opened their first shop in SoHo last year and we celebrate more than 5 years in London.

Working closely with their design team, we brought our perspective to two of their classic frames - the Earlsferry and the Amwell - taking inspiration from downtown Manhattan in the early 90s, and imagining the sunglasses we'd love to pack for our summer travels ahead.

The result is two frames each offered in two unique colors in a limited production of just 50 pieces each. Attitude, sophistication, and high craft are a few ways to describe what we've made.

An Afternoon with Johan & Lila.

To celebrate the launch of these frames, on the first sunny day of Spring, we called up our friends Johan and Lila - two long-time New Yorkers- and invited them to Toad Hall, a Sabah favorite in SoHo. Over an ice cold beer (or two) we learned more about their lives in the 90s in NYC and their “metal love story."

Johan Kugelberg, an esteemed art collector, curator, and writer and Dr. Lila Wolfe, a beloved chiropractor serving downtown Manhattan for over two decades, were brought together by a mutual friend and a mutual love of heavy metal music.

While they’re clearly a perfect match today, it took a little work for Johan to win over Lila’s heart. But with his trademark charm, the help of flowers, a silk scarf, and the music of Mayhem…well, the rest is history.

The Craft.

Cubitts was founded in King’s Cross in 2013 with the belief “that spectacles should be loved, not tolerated. Wanted, not needed.”

Together, we designed two custom colorways in our favorite styles:

The Earlsferry

Energetic and distinctive, Earlsferry offers a traditional pilot shape with a sprinkling of New York City flare.

The Amwell

Amwell offers a refined rectangular shape with rounded edges to bring an air of confidence, bordering on the reckless.

This collection was developed & built using premium Mazzucchelli acetate frames, the highest quality Zeiss lenses, and traditional pin-drilled rivets. The result is a group of elevated and modern specs that are rooted in timeless silhouettes.
